Domestic altercation leads to drug arrest

Jessica Allen
JACKSONVILLE – Police responding to a domestic altercation Wednesday uncovered marijuana and an alleged growing operation. Jessica Allen, 35, was arrested on a charge of cultivation.

According to a media release by Athens County Sheriff Pat Kelly, deputies seized approximately 9 pounds of marijuana.

According to Kelly, Jacksonville-Trimble Chief of Police Brad Larsen was responding to a domestic call at a residence on Route 329 involving a husband, Allen and her boyfriend. Sheriff’s Deputies John Kulchar, Greg Poston and Matt May arrived and discovered the alleged marijuana packaged for distribution.

Deputies said the husband, who had been gone for an extended time, returned to the residence. An altercation ensued between the husband and Allen's boyfriend who was transported to O’Bleness Memorial Hospital by Athens County Emergency Medical Services with a hand injury. The identities of the two males were not released.

Two juvenile children were in the residence where the marijuana was stored and were placed in the custody of their father.

A search warrant was obtained and the Narcotics Enforcement Team (NET) was activated. A grow operation was located in a separate residence on the property. Det. Jim Heater and Lt. Jack Taylor said the grow operation had 137 plant in two rooms.

Allen was arrested and transported to the Southeastern Ohio Regional Jail on a $50,000 cash or surety bond. Charges against the boyfriend will be presented to the Athens County Grand Jury.
