ATHENS – Athens County Sheriff Pay Kelly announced Tuesday evening that 50 pounds of marijuana were seized by the Narcotics Enforcement Team (NET) earlier in the day. Donald Gribbet, 44, of New England Road in Stewart was arrested at a Millfield residence.

Kelly said the NET, led by Detective Jim Heater, executed a search warrant at 18755 N. Lafollette Rd. in Millfield. Heater, Lt. Jack Taylor and Det. Doug Crites dismantled an alleged marijuana growing operation. Kelly added that the warrant was issued based information from a confidential informant.

Detectives believe the residence is used as a so-called grow house with no permanent residents but individuals made visits to cultivate the marijuana. Rooms on an upper floor of the residence were utilized for processing and rooms in the basement were used for cultivation. Marijuana was reportedly being processed and sealed for transaction and evidence points to a previous distribution activity.

Kelly said a similar operation was seized recently in Morgan County. NET detectives are working with Morgan County deputies investigating a possible connection between the two locations.

Gribbet was transported to the Southeastern Ohio Regional Jail (SEORJ) in Nelsonville pending a court appearance.
