SuperValu store to close after 27 years

MCARTHUR – In a Facebook post Monday the SuperValu store announced it will be closing after nearly 27 years of business.

In the statement, owner Mary Jane Ferguson reflected on the decision to close.

Over the course of the last several months, I have been faced with a very difficult decision to make regarding the store. In light of recent events and information that I have received, I have decided it is the best interest of the community, the business, and our employees for McArthur SuperValu to close,” Ferguson said.

Ferguson said deciding to close was very emotional and that business conditions made stating open a challenge.

“Words cannot express the sadness that this decision carries; however, it simply is not feasible for us to continue. Tom and our family opened this store together in 1986, and it has remained a Ferguson family business since his passing," Ferguson said. "It has been a joy to serve the community these 27 years. We are extremely appreciative of those who have supported us since our inception, and we will greatly miss our loyal customers and employees with whom we have developed cherished relationships.”

The store will remain open during regular hours until inventory is sold out until Aug. 31 though bill payments, Western Union, personal checks and related services will be limited.
