McArthur Crime File: McArthur arrested of theft and other charges

On July 24 at approximately 2:23 a.m., Officer Walker and Lt. Neel responded to a burglary alarm at Logan’s Tobacco. Once at the scene, Walker observed a male fleeing on foot from a broken window at the store. Both officers pursued the male, identified as Eric Broughton, 28, of McArthur, but were unable to locate the subject and returned to process the scene.

On July 25 shortly after 2:30 p.m., Officer Hixson received a tip that Broughton had been spotted in the area of his residence on West High Street in McArthur. Hixson, along with deputies from the Vinton County Sheriff’s Office, found Broughton inside his residence and placed Broughton in custody.

During the arrest, Hixson observed what are alleged to drug abuse instruments. Broughton was transported to the Southeastern Ohio regional Jail pending an arraignment.


Felony charges of breaking and entering, fleeing and eluding, as well as misdemeanor charges of theft, criminal damaging, failure to comply with a police officer and possession of drug abuse instruments were forwarded to the Vinton County Prosecutor’s Office for review.
